Sara Trunzo Birthday Bash to Benefit WERU, November 22

Saturday November 22 7PM at Hey Sailor! in Searsport, join Sara Trunzo and her Maine Band, as well as Very Greasy, for a birthday bash and concert called Wild Yam. All ticket proceeds go to WERU Community Radio, available at saratrunzo.com. Door’s open at 4PM so you can have dinner before the show. Tickets are $20 advance / $25 at door. It’s Sara’s 40th birthday and there will be cake! Again, all ticket proceeds go to WERU Community Radio, available at saratrunzo.com.

Nature Notes: A Maine Naturalist Afield is a 5-minute, spoken-word program produced by staff of the Maine Natural History Observatory (MNHO) that discusses natural history topics relating to Maine’s flora and fauna from the perspective of field biologists and naturalists.

Listen to the recent 7-part series produced by MNHO executive director, Glen Mittelhauser, about sailing the Maine Coast and discussing the natural history he sees on the way. Along the trip, Glen encounters coastal seabird colonies, moon jellyfish, and clouds of bioluminescent plankton. Listen through the WERU archives, or wherever you listen to podcasts!

Back in November. you might have chanced upon and listened to a surprise on-air collaboration between Tim Parson, one of the hosts of On the Wing Monday, and his sister, Anne. What a show it was! Tim and Anne together played a selection from their family collection of 45s, all old vinyl spun on the studio’s two turntables. A World of Music Ukrainian Special Guest

On Sunday, July 27 from 6 to 8 pm, A World of Music host Greg Rossel welcomed Anna Dovhanych, a foreign exchange student from Ukraine attending high school in Blue Hill. Anna shared a range of music from her country, from traditional wedding songs to contemporary rock and pop, including several of her favorite artists. She even received a text from her parents back home, where it was 2 am! You can listen to the entire program here.

Meetings of the WERU Board of Directors take place on the third Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m., unless the meeting falls on a holiday. Meetings are open for public observation and there is a fifteen-minute public comment period at the beginning of each meeting. Most meetings are held virtually.
